More renewable natural gas production facilities are coming soon to the state of California.
What’s happening:
- OPAL Fuels (NASDAQ: OPAL) has officially begun construction on a new renewable natural gas facility located in Santa Clara County, California
The big idea:
- The new facility is being built at the Kirby Canyon Landfill and will convert landfill gas into renewable natural gas directly on site
- After capturing methane gas emitting from a landfill, OPAL Fuel’s proprietary technology removes impurities and contaminants from the gas and then puts it through a separation and conversion process to turn it into pipeline grade renewable natural gas
By the numbers:
- The new facility will be capable of producing 5.1M gas gallons equivalent annually once fully constructed and operation
- OPAL Fuels operates 16 other renewable natural gas facilities across the United States of America
Why it matters:
- This is the first renewable natural gas facility that OPAL Fuels has ever launched in California
Going deeper:
- OPAL Fuels also operates a vast network of renewable natural gas fuelling stations across the United States, which are purpose built for heavy duty commercial vehicles
The intrigue:
- Finding ways to produce low carbon fuel has become a major trend in the public markets of late, following a recent flurry of new offtake deals and non dilutive government funding commitments
