Cellular agriculture was once seen as a far fetched science experiment. But now, cruelty free meat is getting closer than ever to being embraced by the masses.
What’s happening:

- The round was led by prolific alternative protein venture fund Lever VC and included other notable investors such as McWin Capital Partners, Valo Ventures, Newfund Capital and Stray Dog Capital
The big idea:
- Clever Carnivore leverages biotechnology to produce cell cultivated chicken, beef and pork for human consumption
- By producing genuine animal meat through cellular agriculture, Clever Carnivore is aiming to invent new types of sausages and burgers that don’t rely on any animal agriculture
The intrigue:
- Clever Carnivore is co founded by Paul Burridge, a professor at Northwestern University and widely considered one of the foremost leading minds in cellular agriculture
By the numbers:
- Since inception Clever Carnivore has raised $9.1M USD in venture capital funding
- Clever Carnivore plans to expand into a new facility that will host 500 litre bioreactors and enable them to enter into full scale production
