One of Canada’s biggest lithium projects might be hidden in the Northwest Territories. And Li-FT Power wants to bring it into production.
What’s happening:
- Li-FT Power (TSXV: LIFT) has announced their first ever mineral resource estimate for their flagship lithium property known as the Yellowknife Lithium Project located in the Northwest Territories, Canada
By the numbers:
- Li-FT Power’s mineral resource estimate shows a total of 50.4M tonnes grading 1.00% lithium oxide, which represents approximately 1.25M tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent
- The new mineral resource estimate positions the Yellowknife Lithium Project as one of the 10 largest hard rock lithium projects in the Western Hemisphere
- Li-FT Power’s mineral resource estimate is validated by data gathered from 49,548 meters of diamond drilling across 286 individual holes
Why it matters:
- This is one of the largest hard rock lithium deposits in all of Canada, ranking only behind properties owned by Patriot Battery Metals (TSX: PMET) and Winsome Resources (ASX: WR1) in terms of size and scale
Going deeper:
- Li-FT Power has been staking multiple other claims to expand their land package in the Northwest Territories, largely due to both the promising potential of high quality lithium deposits in the region and the accessibility to infrastructure such as highways and railroads which will be critical for bringing their properties into full production
- Despite lithium prices being on a significant decline, there has continued to be momentum from large publicly traded lithium producers including Sigma Lithium (NYSE: SGML) recently securing a major loan from the National Brazilian Bank For Economic and Social Development to build out a new lithium production plant and Arcadium Lithium (NYSE: ALTM) previously acquiring a new pilot plant to produce refined lithium metal from carbonate
