The future of healthcare could rely heavily on robots.
What’s happening:
- Austin based robotics startup Diligent has announced a $25M raise led by Canaan, with participation from True Ventures, Next Coast and Northwestern Medicine Innovation
- The focus of the new funding is to accelerate Diligent’s flagship robotics product known as Moxi
- Moxi is a high functioning robot that helps healthcare practitioners with routine activities inside of a hospital or clinic
Why it matters:
- There has been a growing momentum for venture backed startups building robotics hardware
- Healthcare is a particularly interesting area for robotics to be able to integrate with as many hospitals and clinics are understaffed
The intrigue:
- Moxi uses artificial intelligence to be able to adapt to new tasks and quickly learn how to handle different responsibilities
- Currently, Moxi is capable of handling lab samples, picking up supplies and even getting personal belongings for patients
