Solana is embarking on a new venture to expand their ecosystem. And it’s leading many to wonder if hardware is the next frontier for crypto.
What’s happening:
- Solana has officially debuted a new crypto native phone called Chapter 2
- Immediately after launching, pre-orders for Chapter 2 have already surpassed the all time sales for Solana’s previous mobile phone known as Saga
By the numbers:
- Solana’s Chapter 2 device is selling for $450 USD
- In under 48 hours, Solana has already seen 30,000 pre-orders for Chapter 2
- There were only 20,000 Saga devices ever manufactured and sold globally
The big idea:
- Chapter 2 is based on Android and comes equipped with a built in crypto wallet and seamless access to decentralized applications within the Solana ecosystem
- Solana is hoping to create a more direct way to incentivize developers to build decentralized applications by having a direct means of distribution through phone users
Going deeper:
- Saga was initially launched to a lacklustre response, but then recently spiked in popularity due to the ability to claim tokens within the Solana ecosystem simply from purchasing the device
- Chapter 2 has launched with a wide variety of different crypto partnerships including Tensor, Phantom, Magic Eden and Drip
- Solana has publicly stated they plan to reward owners of Chapter 2 devices through these partnerships and collaborations
