One of the most important nickel projects in the United States is expanding their exploration plans once again.
What’s happening:
- Talon Metals (TSX:TLO) has announced they are expanding the Raptor Zone at their flagship Tamarack property located in central Minnesota
By the numbers:
- Talon Metals is expanding the Raptor Zone by approximately 100 metres
- Talon Metals recently increased their exploration plans to begin drilling 30,000 metres across 4 individual targets at Tamarack, with 50% of the funding coming from the United States Department of Defense
Why it matters:
- North American based electric vehicle manufacturers and lithium-ion battery producers are under enormous pressure to find domestic metals in order to qualify for available tax credits, which has led to a race to secure nickel produced in the United States
Going deeper:
- The price of copper has recently been on a rapid ascent as supply shortages loom globally amidst a boom in new demand due to electric vehicles, clean energy infrastructure and data centres
The intrigue:
- Talon Metals also recently announced a new partnership with the United States Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory to turned mined nickel ore into critical inputs for new electric vehicle battery production
