Norway is about to have access to the longest range delivery drones in the world.
What’s happening:
- Drone company Aviant is getting ready to launch the world’s longest distance drone for home deliveries in Norway
By the numbers:
- Aviant’s flagship drone, known as the Kyte, weighs just 7.5 kilograms and is capable of flying 60 kilometres
- The Kyte’s top speed is is 100 kilometres an hour and it can carry a payload of 2 kilograms
- The Kyte is also fully electric and produces 99% less carbon emissions than a fuel powered vehicle
- Aviant has received €1M in grant funding Innovation Norway due to their potential to play a vital role in healthcare and medical deliveries
Why it matters:
- Long distance drones have enormous potential for being able to provide essential items to rural areas and also lowering the overall carbon emissions that are a consequence of vehicle based deliveries
Going deeper:
- Aviant previously established a partnership with St Olavs Hospital in Norway to provide deliveries of medical supplies and prescriptions to patients
- The initial public launch in Norway will allow individuals to order groceries, medicines and meals using Kyte drones
