Superior Mining (TSXV: SUI) has potentially found itself in the exact right place at the exact right time. The Canadian lithium company happens to own a property that is in one of the most promising geographical areas for lithium discovery globally: James Bay, Quebec.
And it also happens to be smack in the middle of two of arguably the best lithium discoveries by publicly traded companies lately.
One from Patriot Battery Metals (TSXV: PMET) and the other is Winsome Resources (ASX: WR1), both highly regarded in the mining community.
The set up is potentially perfect for Superior, but it begs the question: what happens now?
Context:
- Patriot Battery Metals (TSXV: PMET), which has seen its share price soar more than 2100% over the last 18 months, found their major lithium discoveries just 45km east of Superior’s property
- Winsome Resources, had a major discovery of lithium a mere 45km west
- Superior Mining’s flagship property, Vieux Comptoir has yet to enter exploration, but is already showing signs of promise, both in proximity and initial data samples
Why it matters:
- James Bay is becoming a global hotspot for lithium companies to explore and is widely being considered one of the most exciting areas globally for lithium discoveries
- Recent discoveries by Patriot and Winsome have brought global attention- from funds to legacy mining companies- to the James Bay region. Most notably, the recent $109M CAD strategic investment into Patriot from Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB)
- Superior Mining property is one of a select few getting ready to go into exploration soon, with promising targets already having been identified in initial field work
The big picture:
- The demand for lithium currently is on an exponential trend and far outweighing the current supply
- Much more large scale lithium mines need to be in production immediately in order to be able to meet net zero emissions goals laid out by the UN
- The demand in electric vehicles alone for lithium batteries continues to be on an exponential growth trajectory
What’s next:
- The public markets ecosystem is closely watching for what lithium company is next to hit a discovery in James Bay
- Superior Mining has found initial positive targets from airborne magnetic data review done recently
- Further, Superior has entered into an agreement to expand their existing property by over 7,000 new hectares and acquire additional claims
- Their official rock sampling program is set to begin soon, which will first be focused on their initial targets which have shown comparability with the ones initially found in airborne data from Patriot Metals
