- Electric school buses are beginning to see an acceleration in adoption across the United States of America for the first time ever
Why it matters:
- The push to decarbonize transportation and move towards zero emission vehicles is starting to lead towards an uptick in electric heavy duty vehicles and electric school buses in the United States
- Diesel fuel powered school buses also exhaust carcinogenic pollution which is linked to to developing asthma and other respiratory diseases in children
By the numbers:
- The United States Environmental Protection Agency has committed $5B USD in total federal funding to electric school buses
- Over 49 different states have now adopted electric school buses and 8000 individual electric school buses have been funded so far in the United States
- California alone has committed $500M USD in state funding for the transition towards electric school buses as well as charging station infrastructure
Who is making moves:
- GreenPower Motor Company (NASDAQ: GP) has recently landed two new deals for their electric school buses in both Arizona and California
- The Lion Electric Company (NYSE: LEV) has been rapidly rolling out electric school buses into both Canada and the United States, delivering thousands of electric school buses to school districts since officially becoming available for purchase
