Airfields in the United Kingdom are getting a new addition: electric plane charging stations.
What’s happening:
- Electric airplane charging station startup AeroVolt has partnered with Octopus Electroverse to bring their charging stations to airfields across the United Kingdom for the first time ever
Why it matters:
- Electric airplanes have been on the rise as an alternative to fossil fuel burning aircraft, especially for short duration flights or flights with very few passengers
- Octopus Electroverse has grown rapidly across Europe and the United Kingdom through offering individuals the ability to access any charging station through their app, which AeroVolt will now be integrated into
By the numbers:
- AeroVolt has currently installed their charging stations at 7 different airfields within the United Kingdom
- The initial charging stations rolled out by AeroVolt are 22 kilowatts and can charge small electric airplanes within a few hours
- Octopus Electroverse has over 650,000 electric vehicle charging stations across the United Kingdom and Europe
Going deeper:
- Electric plane manufacturer SkyFly recently partnered with AeroVolt to perform the first flight in the United Kingdom that was powered entirely by an electric charging station
