Sequoia Capital is making a new bet on American made defense technology.
What’s happening:
- Autonomous drone startup Neros has raised $10.9M USD in a new financing round
- The round was led by Sequoia Capital
The big idea:
- Neros manufactures drones that are purpose built for combat situations
- Neros’s drones are fully autonomous and capable of gathering intelligence, clearing mines and more
Why it matters:
- Many prominent Silicon Valley venture capital funds have begun to invest heavily into North American based startups focused on defense technology in an effort to reduce the United States being dependent on foreign countries for leading edge combat hardware
By the numbers:
- China is currently the largest supplier of drones in the world, representing approximately 85% of the global drone manufacturing capacity
Going deeper:
- Neros intends to use the new growth capital to construct a purpose built factory in order to scale up the manufacturing and production of their drones
The intrigue:
- Neros recently completed a pilot project with the United States Army in which their drones successfully removed anti-tank landmines in every single attempt
