Rocket Lab has completed another launch successfully. And now they have even more of their own satellites in orbit as a result.
What’s happening:
- Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: RKLB) has successfully launched their most recent Electron mission from Mahia, New Zealand and has also deployed five more satellites into low Earth orbit
Why it matters:
- The recent successful launch is done in partnership with French Internet-of-Things company Kineis who plans to leverage Rocket Lab’s satellites to be able to access important data around forest fire detection, water resources and energy infrastructure
- Rocket Lab is one of the most important publicly traded companies focused on space technology, recently completing a notable deal with NASA in which Rocket Lab supplied them with two twin satellites for an upcoming mission
By the numbers:
- Rocket Lab has now done 53 separate launches and deployed 197 satellites into orbit
Going deeper:
- Rocket Lab’s satellites in low Earth orbit are also able to be used by Kineis for tracking objects of any sort, including locating animal herds that have wandered away from farms and tracking vessels to see if they are headed towards disastrous weather conditions
- Satellite technology is becoming more relevant than ever, with publicly traded space companies recently pulling off launches for space-based broadband connectivity and cutting new deals with NATO for satellite data
