NASA is getting ready to take delivery of new satellites. And they are taking them into orbit to better understand Mars.
What’s happening:
- Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: RKLB) has successfully shipped twin satellites to NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre located in Florida for an upcoming launch into orbit
The big idea:
- The twin satellites are a part of NASA’s ESCAPADE mission that is aiming to study the magnetized area of space around Mars
- The purpose of the mission is to better understand how the magnetosphere interacts with solar wind, and how energy and plasma comes and goes from the areas surrounding Mars through heliophysics
- NASA’s ESCAPADE mission focused on heliophysics is part of NASA’s Small Innovative Missions for Planetary Exploration program
By the numbers:
- Since inception, Rocket Lab has delivered more than 190 satellites to private companies and government partners for space exploration
- Rocket Lab’s proprietary satellite components and technology have been integrated into more than 1,700 successful satellite missions globally
Going deeper:
- The twin satellites from RocketLab will be launched into orbit as part of an upcoming launch from Jeff Bezos’s space exploration company Blue Origin
