Solar powered robots might be changing the future of farming.
What’s happening:
- Kirkland, Washington based robotics company Aigen has raised $12M USD in a Series A financing for their solar powered robots for farming
- The new round saw participation from notable venture funds including ReGen Ventures, New Enterprise Associates, Cleveland Ave, Incite and more
The big idea:
- Aigen has built artificial intelligence powered robotics that are capable of using solar energy to navigate, weed and analyze crops
- The data gathered from Aigen’s sensors and cameras is then translated into easy to understand data is then accessible to farm owners
- Each one of Aigen’s robotics is completely autonomous and operates entirely on renewable energy
Going deeper:
- Aigen’s engineering team includes former talent from SpaceX and Amazon Robotics
By the numbers:
- Aigen has raised $19M USD in venture capital funding since inception
- They will build a 7,500 square foot manufacturing and research facility to begin producing 3,000 robots per year
- Within the next year Aigen believes their robots will be operating on more than 20,000 acres of farmland in the United States alone
- The first ever pre order launch for Aigen’s robotics sold out in 24 hours
