The future of laying bricks for new buildings might be done entirely by robots.
What’s happening:
- Amsterdam based robotics startup Monumental has raised $25M USD in a new financing
- The round was led by venture capital funds Plural and Hummingbird
The big idea:
- Monumental manufactures artificial intelligence powered robots that operate as small, electric autonomous ground vehicles
- Each one of Monumental’s robots is capable of laying down bricks and mortar in any type of new building with extreme accuracy
- Monumental leverages their own proprietary software known as Atrium to monitor the progress and efficiency of each of their electric autonomous ground vehicles as they lay bricks
Why it matters:
- Robotics for brick laying has the ability to massively accelerate construction timelines on new buildings and be at the forefront of validating technology enabled automation for manual labour
Going deeper:
- Monumental has already successfully completed multiple pilot projects as well as their first large scale commercial construction project for a warehouse building
By the numbers:
- Monumental already has established partnerships with 25 different construction companies to use their robotics for upcoming projects
