Amazon is betting big on artificial intelligence.
What’s happening:
- Amazon has announced they will invest up to $4B USD into artificial intelligence startup Anthropic to advance their AI models
- The deal is centred around Anthropic collaborating with Amazon and using Amazon Web Services to build their foundational models
- Further, Amazon engineers and developers will be able to build on top of Anthropic’s models and create entirely new applications and integrations
Why it matters:
- This is by far Amazon’s biggest bet yet on artificial intelligence
- Microsoft notably invested $10B USD into OpenAI and has established numerous collaborations and partnerships around ChatGPT
- This is yet another strong sign of validation that artificial intelligence has a massive untapped potential for large technology companies
Going deeper:
- Anthropic notably built a next generation AI application called Claude, which functions as a assistant for companies
- After coming out of beta testing, the potential for Claude is already showing enormous promise
- Bridewater Associates, one of the world’s largest asset managers founded by Ray Dalio, recently announced they are developing an investment analyst powered by Claude
The intrigue:
- Anthropic claims that the next iteration of Claude is going to be able to handle highly specific instructions and process extensive amounts of information across finance, legal and even coding
