Another humanoid robot has officially been unveiled by a publicly traded company.
What’s happening:
- Electric vehicle company XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) has officially debuted their first ever humanoid robot known as Iron
The big idea:
- Iron is a humanoid robot that is powered by a large artificial intelligence model and is capable of performing tasks completely autonomously
Why it matters:
- XPeng is one of the fastest growing electric vehicle companies in China and is also extremely focused on artificial intelligence technology, particularly around developing next generation chips that are purpose built for vehicles
- This is the latest robot launch from a publicly traded company, following recent notable new robotics technology debuts from Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), Serve Robotics (NASDAQ: SERV) and others
By the numbers:
- Iron is 178 inches tall and weights approximately 154 pounds
- Iron is manufactured with 60 individual joints to increase mobility and allow it to operate with very fluid movement in a variety of different settings
Going deeper:
- XPeng is already using Iron to help assemble and manufacture new electric vehicles in a factory setting, which is part of a larger effort to validate Iron’s functionality and capabilities before releasing it more broadly to be able to complete tasks in households and offices
